Frequently Asked Questions
What types of addiction do you treat?
I provide counseling for a wide range of substance use issues including alcohol, opioids, prescription medications, marijuana, stimulants, and co-occurring mental health disorders. I specialize in trauma-informed, strengths-based approaches to healing.
Do you offer virtual addiction counseling in North Carolina?
Yes. I offer secure teletherapy sessions to individuals and families anywhere in North Carolina. This allows for flexible, accessible support wherever you are.
Can you help me as a support person for a loved one struggling with addiction?
Absolutely. I work with family members to better understand addiction, learn healthy boundaries, and support their own healing journey. Family involvement can be essential in recovery.
What is trauma-informed addiction counseling?
Trauma-informed care recognizes that past trauma can contribute to substance use. My approach creates a safe, nonjudgmental space to explore those roots and build resilience through modalities like DBT, CBT, and Internal Family Systems.
How do I know if I need addiction counseling?
If substance use is affecting your relationships, work, health, or self-worth, counseling can help. It’s never too early (or too late) to talk to someone about what you’re experiencing.
What does a typical session look like?
Sessions are conversational and personalized. We may explore past trauma, thought patterns, triggers, coping strategies, or relationship dynamics—whatever feels most helpful in that moment.
Do you accept insurance or offer sliding scale rates?
I am currently an out-of-network provider and can provide superbills for reimbursement. I offer a limited number of sliding scale slots—please reach out to discuss availability.
How is your approach different from 12-step or rehab programs?
While 12-step programs can be valuable, my counseling is tailored to your unique experience and is not one-size-fits-all. I work with harm reduction, abstinence-based goals, or whatever recovery might look like for you.
What age groups do you work with?
I work with adults and young adults and adolescents (13+), and provide family counseling as needed to support loved ones affected by addiction.
